Staatsoper Stuttgart

The State Opera house of Stuttgart belongs to State Theatre Stuttgart, the largest three-section theatre in Europe. It consists of Staatsoper Stuttgart, Stuttgarter Ballet and Schauspiel Stuttgart.

The monumental building was built from 1909 to 1912, by Munich architect Max Littmann and was placed under monument protection in 1924.

The “Große Haus" hall was renovated in original style, according to the in 1982 rediscovered plans of Littmann. It can accommodate an audience of 1400 people and has a 19m. wide and 23m deep stage.

The Staatsoper belongs to Germany’s most prestigious performing arts theatres and was awarded with the title “Opera house of the year” in 1994, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2006.
